## How the gate works

- Inline gate: the first few blocks are free to read, the rest unlocks in place once the visitor submits the form
- Squeeze gate: the form appears before any content
- The gate can also appear after a set time on page or when the reader clicks "continue reading"
- The form collects email, with optional name, phone and company fields (each can be optional or required)
- After submitting, content reveals instantly on the same page, or the lead can be sent to a redirect URL such as a booking page or offer
- Optional double opt-in to confirm email addresses
- The locked content is never sent to the browser before sign-up. The server sends only the free preview, and the rest (plus any PDF download link) is returned after the form is submitted, so it cannot be read from the page source
- Returning visitors keep access for a year from their last visit without entering their email again, unless they clear their browser data or switch device
- Search engines see only the free preview, so that is the part that can rank. Each page can also be hidden from search engines entirely

## Data and privacy

- Hosted on a server in the United Kingdom, with the database and backups in the same UK environment
- For leads collected on a page, the account holder is the data controller and Gatedleads is the data processor
- Account holders can export or delete leads at any time. Free plan history older than 30 days is deleted automatically
