How to Gate Content on Wix

To gate content on Wix behind an email address, embed a gated page in a Wix Embed HTML element. Visitors see a preview of your guide on your Wix page, enter their email in the form, and the rest of the content or the PDF download appears in the same spot. Wix's own page permissions can restrict a page to members or password holders, but that asks visitors to create an account or know a password, which is a bigger step than giving an email for a free resource.

What Wix offers on its own

Wix has two built-in ways to restrict a page, both covered in Wix's guide to page permissions. You can set a page to Password holders, so only people with the password can see it, or to Members only, which needs a Members Area and a login on your site.

Both are useful. A password page works well for sharing a resource with an existing group, such as course students, and members only pages suit a full membership site. Neither is built for the common lead magnet case, where a stranger trades an email for a checklist or guide and you want that email in your list. Wix also notes that password protected pages do not appear in search results, so the page itself cannot attract visitors from search.

How the embed works on Wix

Gatedleads gives each page an embed code that loads the page in an iframe, with a short script that resizes it and passes tracking details along. Embedding is a Gatedleads Pro feature.

On Wix, that code goes in an Embed HTML element. Wix's developer documentation explains that this element places your code in its own sandboxed iframe, without direct access to the rest of the page. The gate, the form and the delivery of your content all work normally inside it. Two things behave differently from other site builders, and both come from that sandbox:

  • Height. The script resizes the Gatedleads page, but the Wix element around it keeps the size you give it in the editor. You set that height yourself.
  • Tracking. Because the code cannot see the address of your Wix page, UTM tags on your Wix link are not passed through, and the traffic source recorded with each lead may show Wix's iframe address rather than your page. If source tracking matters, the link method at the end of this post records it more reliably.

Step 1: Build the gated page

Create the page in Gatedleads with a headline, a short preview, the gate and the content that appears after someone signs up. If you are offering a PDF, add a File download block so it downloads once the email is in. Starting from a template saves time, and you only need the content, since the page will sit inside your Wix design.

Publish it and test it on its own link first, so you know the page works before Wix is involved. Gating a PDF behind an email covers the file side in more detail.

Step 2: Copy the embed code

In the Gatedleads editor, open the Settings tab, find Embed on your site and click Copy embed code.

Step 3: Add an Embed HTML element in Wix

Following Wix's steps for embedding code in the Wix Editor:

  1. Open the page where the gated content should go.
  2. Click Add Elements on the left of the editor.
  3. Click Embed Code, then Popular Embeds.
  4. Click Embed HTML to add the element to your page.
  5. Click the element, then click Enter Code.
  6. Paste the full snippet under Add your code here, then click Apply.

In Wix Studio the element is called Embed code rather than Embed HTML, according to Wix's developer documentation. Wix also notes that it only displays HTTPS code, and the Gatedleads snippet already uses HTTPS.

Step 4: Size the element

Drag the element's handles so it spans the width of your section, then make it tall enough to show the whole page after someone signs up, not just the preview. Wix's help article points out that embedded code is not responsive in the way the rest of a Wix page is, so check the mobile view in the editor as well and adjust the element there.

A gated page is shorter before the form is submitted than after it. Size the element for the longer version, so the full guide is not cut off at the bottom. Some empty space below the preview is a small price for that.

Step 5: Test it on the live site

Publish your Wix site, then open the live page in a private browser window. Enter a test email, confirm the gated content or the PDF appears, and scroll to check nothing is cut off. Then look at the lead in your Gatedleads dashboard.

If the element looks blank in the editor, check the published page before changing anything, since embedded code can behave differently in the editor.

Placement tips

  • Put it after the paragraph that sells it. An embed directly below a short explanation of why the guide is useful gets more attention than one at the foot of a long page.
  • Keep one gated embed per page. Two forms on the same page split attention.
  • Give it room. A full-width strip with plenty of height reads as part of the page rather than a box squeezed into a column.

The free alternative: link to the gated page

On the Gatedleads Free plan, or if you want accurate source tracking, publish the gated page on its own link and add a Wix Button that points to it. Visitors move to the Gatedleads page for the single step of entering their email, and the gated content, PDF delivery and lead tracking all work as normal. Add UTM tags to the button's link if you want to see which Wix page sent each lead. UTM links for lead magnets shows how to build them.

How to gate content without code explains this standalone setup and why it is sometimes the better choice anyway.

Using another platform?

The same embed code works on other site builders, often with fewer quirks. See how to gate content on Squarespace, how to gate content on WordPress and how to gate content on Webflow.

When the page is ready, create your gated page free and test it with the link method before you upgrade for the embed.

FAQ

Can Wix gate content behind an email without another tool?

Not in the usual lead magnet sense. Wix can restrict pages to password holders or logged in members, but it has no built-in way to hide part of a page until a visitor enters an email.

Why does my embedded gated page get cut off on Wix?

The Wix element keeps the height you set in the editor. Make it tall enough for the full content shown after signup, and check the mobile layout separately.

Will UTM tags work with the Wix embed?

Not reliably, because Wix runs embedded code in its own sandboxed iframe that cannot read your page address. Link to the gated page with UTM tags if you need accurate source data.

Do the leads go into Wix?

No. Leads are stored in Gatedleads. You can export them as a CSV, or on Pro send each new lead on through Zapier.
