How to Connect Unbounce to Google Sheets With a Webhook
To send Unbounce leads to a Google Sheet, create a Zap in Zapier that starts with Webhooks by Zapier and the Catch Hook event, paste the custom webhook URL it gives you into the Webhooks section of your Unbounce page, submit a test form, and then add a Google Sheets action that creates a spreadsheet row. It takes about fifteen minutes the first time. This guide also covers the common variants, connect Google Sheets and Unbounce through a webhook, and how to bring the email field through.
What you need
You need an Unbounce page with a form, a Zapier account, a Google account with a spreadsheet, and permission to add integrations to the page. Check which Zapier plan includes the Webhooks by Zapier trigger before you begin.
Step 1: prepare the Google Sheet
Open a new sheet and put a heading in each column of the first row. For a simple lead sheet, use headings that match your form: Name, Email, Phone, Page name, Date submitted. Zapier reads these headings to offer each column as a field to fill, so create them first.
Step 2: create the Zap and copy the webhook URL
- In Zapier, create a new Zap.
- For the trigger, choose Webhooks by Zapier.
- Choose the Catch Hook event. The "Webhooks by Zapier" Catch Hook trigger needs a paid Zapier plan.
- Zapier shows a unique custom webhook URL. Copy it and leave the Zap open.
Zapier describes Catch Hook as providing a unique URL that other apps send data to. Anyone with that URL can send data to it, so keep it private.
Step 3: add the webhook in Unbounce
Unbounce's documentation sets out these steps.
- Open your page and go to the Integrations tab, then the Webhooks tab.
- Choose Add Webhook.
- Paste the Zapier URL into the URL field.
- Choose a content type. Unbounce's article says the default is application/x-www-form-urlencoded and that you can switch to JSON or XML. The documentation contradicts itself in one place, so use the options you see in the menu and test the result.
- Set up field mapping if you want to rename or remove fields. Unbounce says this option is available only when the content type is JSON or XML.
- Select Save Changes and wait for Unbounce to add the webhook. A dialog confirms success. If you see an error, open View Details, check the URL and select Resubmit.
Unbounce also says you can add several webhooks to one page and that webhooks are copied when you duplicate a page.
Step 4: send a test submission
Publish the page and submit the form with test details such as your own name and email address. Unbounce sends the data when a form is submitted, so Zapier cannot see anything until you do.
In Unbounce, open the Leads tab, select the latest lead and look for a green check mark under Integration Details. That tells you the data was sent and accepted.
Step 5: test the trigger in Zapier
Return to the Zap and run the test of the trigger. Zapier should show the test submission. You should see your form field names, such as email, along with extra details Unbounce adds. According to Unbounce, these include the page name, page URL, the variant letter, the date and time submitted in UTC and the IP address of the visitor.
If Zapier shows nothing, check that the form was actually submitted on the page that has the webhook, and wait a few seconds before trying again.
Step 6: add the Google Sheets action
- In the Zap, add an action and choose Google Sheets.
- Choose Create Spreadsheet Row and connect your Google account.
- Select the spreadsheet and worksheet.
- Your column headings should appear as fields. Map each one to the matching value from the Unbounce data. Map the Email column to the email field from your form, and the date column to the date submitted.
- Test the action and check that a new row appears in the sheet.
- Publish the Zap.
Unbounce records time in UTC and says this cannot be changed, so convert it in your sheet if you work in another time zone.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No data arrives in Zapier | Test form not yet submitted, or wrong URL | Resubmit a test and check the URL in Unbounce |
| Unbounce shows an error | The webhook URL is wrong or the receiving service did not respond with a success code | Use View Details, correct the URL and resubmit |
| Fields look jumbled | Content type changed after the test | Run a fresh test submission so Zapier sees the new format |
| Email column is blank | Mapping is missing | Map the form's email field to the Email column |
| Duplicate rows | Two webhooks on the same page | Remove the extra one |
Unbounce sends a webhook from specific IP addresses, listed in its article, which is useful only if your own server limits traffic.
Keeping the sheet useful
A sheet fills up quickly. Add a Status column so you can mark each lead as contacted, and sort by date submitted. Before you collect personal details, make sure your page tells people how you will use them, and check the data protection rules that apply where you operate. If your page is not on Unbounce, our guide to sending landing page leads to Google Sheets covers other routes.
If you also use Gatedleads
The same pattern works for pages built in other tools. Gatedleads Pro sends leads to other tools through Zapier webhooks, and on any plan you can download leads as a CSV file. If you are weighing builders, our Leadpages alternatives page and Unbounce comparison set out the differences.
Frequently asked questions
How do I connect Unbounce to Google Sheets?
Use a webhook. Create a Zap with Webhooks by Zapier and Catch Hook, add the URL to your Unbounce page under Integrations and Webhooks, test with a form submission, then add a Create Spreadsheet Row action in Google Sheets.
Can I send the email field from Unbounce to Google Sheets?
Yes. Map the form's email field to a column in the Zap's Google Sheets step.
Does Unbounce send the date and page name?
According to Unbounce's documentation, it adds the page name, page URL, variant, date and time submitted and IP address to each webhook.
Why is no data arriving in Zapier?
Usually no test form has been submitted yet, or the URL was copied incorrectly. Submit a new test and check the Leads tab in Unbounce.
Is this the only way to send Unbounce leads to Google Sheets?
No, but a webhook with Zapier is a common route and does not require writing a script.
